The short version

Estimates for general information only — not financial, credit or legal advice. Your actual figures depend on your lender’s or card issuer’s exact terms, fees, minimum-payment rules, interest calculation method and any changes they make. Check your statements and speak to a qualified adviser before making decisions.

What the results are

DebtWren applies published formulas to the figures you enter, and shows the steps and assumptions behind each result. It knows nothing about you beyond those figures: not your full income, your credit history, your lender’s terms, or charges and rules that apply to your accounts.

What they aren’t

  • Not advice. Nothing on the site is a recommendation to borrow, consolidate, transfer a balance, or pick any particular repayment order. DebtWren calculates and explains; it never advises. Comparisons describe scenarios, not choices you should make.
  • Not an offer or a quote. Lenders, banks and card providers use their own rates, fees, minimum-payment rules, day-count conventions and rounding. Their figures can differ from ours.
  • Not your lender’s calculation. We don’t know your issuer’s exact minimum-payment formula, fees, promotional rates or interest method. Figures are worked examples from what you enter, not a quote from any lender.

Calculator-specific limits

  • Avalanche and snowball: We assume the payments and minimums you enter stay fixed for the whole plan; real minimums and promotional rates can change.
  • Loan consolidation: Consolidation only saves money if the new loan’s APR and fees beat your current debts, and approval is never guaranteed.
  • Credit card minimum payment: Minimum-payment formulas differ by issuer and can change; always confirm the amount on your statement.

Rules and rates change

Lenders and card issuers change rates, minimum-payment rules and fees. The formulas and conventions we document were checked on the date shown in the changelog, but they can change after that date. Check your own statements for the figures that matter to you.

Errors and liability

We work hard to get things right and test every calculator against worked examples, but mistakes are possible. If you find one, please email errors@debtwren.com. Our liability is described in the terms of use.
